Here are some of the common door problems:
Air and light infiltration at top or bottom of the jamb
Check if the door frame is plumb, level, and square to eliminate slights at the top and bottom corners of the door caused by an uneven door to jam measurement or caused by warp door. Either light infiltration through from some pins bind and lock side that can be fixed with proper weatherstrip eliminating the hinge binding and the light infiltration through the lock side.
Water infiltration
Is caused by torn or damaged weatherstrip that needs to be replaced.
Check if the weatherstrip is torn or damaged and the corner pads. The corner pads are a very integral part of the thermal to the door system.
Also, the door bottom seal if have one.
Air and water infiltration around and under the sill
Check if the bottom of the door is getting proper contact with the sill. The correction of it is by putting a level on the sill. This will correct the rocking back and forth tested by 24 in beam level on the sill.
The door won’t open or close properly
Check if the jamb in the hinge move caused by the tension on the hinge as you moved the door in and out. This is caused by the lack of shims behind hinges.
The door is loose when closed
The other common problem that can cause water and light infiltration is the strike plate with improper installation or adjusted to losing.
The door is sagging and rubbing at the top
Check is not caused by not a square frame or the absence of the long two and a half inch in number three head hinge screws.
The other common problem caused by not a square frame is the unlevel subfloor that could be fixed from the lower jamb leg, shimming underneath it.
Keeping your doors in order will save money with AC and bugs or rainwater outside of your house.
